Kanuka Digital

Nov 2019 - Maa 2020

Kanuka Digital is a leading British digital agency, active since 1995. They specialize in e-commerce, WordPress, and learning platform solutions (via WooCommerce and LearnDash) with full in-house execution.

During my Web Development studies at Staffordshire University, I worked part-time as a front-end web developer at Kanuka Digital. My responsibilities included converting provided designs into web pages using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, while also learning to work with SASS and the BEM naming convention for structured styling.

I then collaborated with my supervisor to move the HTML into PHP files and integrate it with WordPress, enabling content to be displayed dynamically.

One of the projects I contributed to was the website for the British record label Z Records. Through this project, I gained extensive experience with PHP, WordPress, and applying media queries for responsive design.

Frankwatching

Feb 2022 - Nov 2023

Frankwatching is the largest Dutch platform for marketing, communication, and online trends. With over 300,000 unique visitors per month and a community of more than 450,000 followers, it is known for high-quality content.

At the beginning of my time at Frankwatching, I worked on further developing the existing platform. Although there were already plans to transition to a completely new platform using Next.js and a headless WordPress setup, the start of that project was still some time away.

As soon as the development of the new platform began, I collaborated with one other front-end developer and two back-end developers. The focus at that time was on the Jobs pillar of the platform. Initially, I supported the team in setting up the job board, but my main focus was on building the “Post a Job” form.

My role went beyond just implementation. I actively contributed to decisions about front-end technologies. Together, we chose Next.js, Tailwind CSS, and Apollo GraphQL to efficiently fetch data from the headless WordPress environment and deliver a fast, modular user experience.

De Indruk

Jul 2024 - Jan 2025

De Indruk is a full-service marketing and communications agency based in Ede. They combine strategic thinking with visual creativity and technical expertise to develop impactful marketing campaigns and online solutions.

At De Indruk, I worked as a front-end web developer and made an active contribution to the development of three websites: SV Land, QBuild, and Fri-Jado. Each of these projects had its own unique character and technical challenges, but I consistently used the Radicle Roots setup to establish a modern, scalable, and maintainable front-end architecture.

The Radicle Roots setup is an advanced WordPress starter stack from Roots, based on tools such as Sage, Blade templates, and modern JavaScript bundling, combined with utility-first CSS. It enables developers to build WordPress sites in a structured way, with reusable components and separated logic for views and data. This results in a clean codebase, better performance, and an improved editing experience for the client.

My contribution involved implementing the front-end structure, building responsive components, and optimizing the user experience based on design guidelines. Through my expertise in Tailwind CSS, I contributed to a consistent and efficient styling approach.

Within the team, I actively shared my knowledge of Tailwind CSS. As a result, it began to be combined with the existing SASS setup in new projects. This hybrid approach provided greater flexibility and faster development, without immediately replacing established workflows.
